2010 Food – What Cha Gonna Eat in 2010?
The National Restaurant Association released a press release of what they think will be the hottest foods on menus for 2010.
Locally grown produce, locally sourced meats and seafood, sustainability, mini-desserts and locally produced wine and beer top the list of nearly 215 culinary items in the “What’s Hot in 2010” survey. Rounding out the top 10 trends are nutritious kids’ meals, half-portions, farm-branded ingredients, gluten-free/food-allergy conscious meals and sustainable seafood.
It is interesting to note that the chefs poled think restaurants are going “retro” in that they are seeking local produce and meats when possible. It is retro because that is what restaurants of “old” did before massive transit.
Another interesting point that was made is that the top food items were ranked high based on nutrition and healthy options availability — especially for children. Things like superfruits, bite-size and half portions and food allergy / gluten free meals are up their in the list because consumer interest in health and nutrition are growing more popular.

What’s on my list of foods to eat in 2010? Because of health issues over the past 8 years, I’ve had to trim down my food list quite a bit. I no longer eat a lot of fat, gluten, sweeteners of any kind, processed foods, take out foods, fast foods, soft drinks, or anything that does not contribute directly to a healthy body. So, I’m left with fresh fruits, vegetable, whole grains, and lots of water. It may sound boring to some, but it’s definitely a healthy diet. I’ve lost some unwanted pounds, I have tons more energy, I sleep better, and I feel good! That’s what it’s all about.

I agree- I spent a couple days researching foods to eat last week, although didn’t find as much information as you’ve displayed here. Thanks for the in-depth post, it certainly clarified a few things for me.

I’ll tell you one thing thats not on my list in 2010 – ice cream. I ate so much of it in 2009 and actually put on quite a bit of weight (obviously not only because of the ice cream) so I made a new years resolution to not eat any. So far so good!

Most people forget that many people in the world earn so that they can get two meals a day, after this neglecting food, bad eating habits, lack of exercise etc. become ‘commonplace’ for them. It’s a good reminder you have sent with this post. Preserve what we already have by taking the right measures.

That is funny! I love ice cream too. I had been thinking about going vegan or partially (eat seafood too). Plus we are trying really hard not to eat Anything with additives.

Thanks for the info on food choices — although I have found it a bit late in 2010 — but it is good to know more healthy choices are becoming available.

I like the idea of the restaurants tending to source more produce locally. Chances are its much fresher and better quality than when sourced further afield…also helps the other local businesses a lot as well.

Well the year is more than half over, and I can tell you we have really changed our diet and what we are eating in 2010. No more foods with any type of additives whatsoever. If we can’t pronounce the ingredient, we don’t buy the product.
